Stop! Turn off the TV and help me protect Netarts Bay. Here are the three reasons why you should help me protect Netarts Bay. The first reason why you should help me protect Netarts Bay is because sea creatures live here. For example: sea stars, spider crabs, Dungeness crabs and hermit crabs. This is a fact I learned about sea stars. When predators approach they might eat a hand and the sea stars can grow another one. Another reason why you should help me protect Netarts Bay is because the hermit crabs may have a nest on the rocks and we have to stop the people from killing the babies. Oh, and plus this is a fact I learned about hermit crabs: the fact that I learned about them is that they look like this (picture)! The last reason why you should help me protect Netarts Bay is because ghost shrimp are getting killed. Now you know why you should help me protect Netarts Bay.

Crabs are really cool because they have ten legs; two are claws and four are legs that keep with the shell. Here is one reason why it’s cool too, it molts and grows a new shell. Here’s another reason why crabs are cool: they walk sideways and hermit crabs don’t grow shells, they steal shells and have a really soft body. When the tide comes, crabs come out of their holes and see what the ocean has brought them to eat. These are all the reasons we should care about crabs and I hope they don’t go extinct.

I liked the “Day at the Bay”. I liked the part when the little isopods were crawling on the rocks there. I saw one on the ground and picked it up, it tickled. I love the part when we saw the octopus. It was poisonous. I was very scared to touch it, but then I touched it finally. I liked to touch the animals. It was fun. I love the “Day at the Bay.”

The “Day at the Bay” was awesome. Let me tell you why. One reason I liked the “Day at the Bay” is that I got to look at an octopus and it was slimy and it went right next to me because it liked my coat. Another reason I liked the field trip is that we all got to look at birds there and we got to use cool binoculars and we got to see some seals too. The sea cucumber was interesting. For example, the sea cucumber is long and red and it had white spots and it was slimy. That is my opinion about the “Day at the Bay."

I learned so much at the tidepool field trip. I learned that when you turn a starfish over and put it on your hair it will pull your hair and it hurts. And I learned that kelp is a kind of a plant and that a crab likes to be under rocks and by water. Also I liked the part where you get to pick up crabs. That was so fun! So that’s what I learned and liked about the field trip.

I like the sea stars. They have lots of tiny pokeys on them. The tiny pokeys protect it. Sea stars have lots of colors like purple, yellow, brown, orange and red. A sea star has five legs and it can be as small as four inches or as large as ten inches in length. Sea stars are the most interesting animals, they are the “bestest” sea creatures. Sea stars mostly eat mussels, chitons, limpets, snails and barnacles. They stay next to their food so they can catch them easily.
